Man's body found in burning Coventry house

An elderly man has died during a house fire in Coventry.



Fire crews were called to The Chesils, Styvechale, just after 8am. Neighbours alerted them to the blaze.

On entry they discovered the man in his living room.

Station commander Kevin Rogers said the fire had been going for some time.

"It was a severe fire," he said. "Joists in the floor were burnt through.

"There's a large hole in the floor - the fire must have been going for at least two hours, possibly longer."

Fire investigation teams were due to visit the house later this morning to try and establish how the fire started.
