Rugby's newest supermarket opened at 9am this morning (Monday).
Morrisons took over the former Netto store in Corporation Street earlier this year and the supermarket chain has transformed and rebranded the store over the last few months.
Crowds of shoppers gathered to watch the new general manager, Jenny Haywood and Susan Wilbraham, from Save the Children, officially open the store to the public.
Jenny said: “I was overwhelmed by the number of customers that gathered for the opening of the store and the amount of support and positive comments we have been given. It’s brilliant to see that our great value and our quality fresh food has been so well received.
“I’d also like to thank the team for all the hard work they have put in. It’s incredible to think that we were only handed the store a few weeks ago, so to turn it around so quickly is a testament to the massive effort across the business.
Save the Children has been selected as Morrisons 2011 Charity of the Year partner.
Save the Children’s Corporate Partnerships Director, Douglas Rouse, said: “Everyone at Save the Children is thrilled to be working with Morrisons in Rugby. That’s why we were delighted to come along today and officially open this new store. Money raised locally through this fantastic partnership will help us give children the chances in life they deserve.”
A team of 50 members of staff will be working at the store.
