Endangered water voles in Coventry are being protected with a new project run by the city council and Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.

Water vole numbers have dropped by 90 per cent in 20 years which is mainly due to non-native American mink, habitat loss because of river banks and changes in farming practices.

As part of the Coventry Water Vole Project, work is being done to change mowing practices in parks near rivers, while non-native plants are being removed and replaced with native plants and wildflowers.

Volunteers are invited to spend a day helping to improve water vole habitats at Longford Park, Lakeview Park in Coundon and Brookside Avenue, Whoberley.

The volunteer sessions take place on various days between June 8 and July 20, from 10am to 3pm.
