Lisa West runs the Glebe Farm shop in Ashorne, near Hampton Lucy, and on Sunday night she was burgled and her daughter’s cat ‘mutilated’ while they were asleep.

Ms West said: “We were burgled at the weekend and it’s the fifth time we’ve been done now.

“There have been two or three businesses in the area that have been burgled recently as well. The house opposite had copper wiring ripped out while the plaster was still drying recently.

“They killed my daughter Hannah’s cat, mutilated him actually, and tried to steal our horses. These people aren’t nice.

“We were in bed about 100 yards away, it was a really windy night so we didn’t hear anything. They broke the back door down and they took the police number from the wall and put it on the counter as some kind of joke.”

In total around £1000 worth of meat, bread, cakes and other stock was stolen from the shop but the thieves didn’t manage to make off with their miniature ponies.

“Hopefully someone will trip up by selling the meat somewhere and someone recognises it because it’s quite unique,” Ms West added.

“But we don’t know what they could do next, it’s very frightening and we feel we are being victimised.

“We are a bit out in the middle of nowhere so it is scary that they could come back any time. It was two hours before the police came.

“They caught my daughter’s cat, bashed his head in and chucked him onto the road. She found him out on the main road the next day, which was obviously horrible for her.

“But, regardless of what they took, we just want to raise awareness that this is happening.

“We are struggling as it is, we have got a good community spirit here and we support a few local businesses so, if we go down, then it will create problems for them. We had a very good Easter weekend and then this happens, and everything we had we have lost.”

Police received the call about the burglary at around 8am on bank holiday Monday and are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact them on 684270 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
