Paramedics were called to the southbound carriageway between Junction 1 and the Catthorpe Interchange just after 3:40pm on Tuesday.

The woman was in a car which collided with a people carrier and a van in an accident that affected both the northbound and southbound stretches.

She was confirmed dead at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Four men in their thirties who were in the people carrier were all taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire; the two most seriously injured, one with a chest injury, the other with pelvic and facial injuries were both flown.

“The other two men, one of whom had a collar bone injury, the other chest and pelvic injuries, were both taken by land ambulances to the same hospital.

“The driver of the van which had ended up on its side was assessed at the scene, was found to have minor injuries and refused the offer of hospital treatment.”

The crash happened just a day after a four-vehicle accident in the same place left a man with serious head injuries.

The stretch southbound between junctions 2 and 1, and the northbound route between junction 1 and Catthorpe were due to stay closed until at least midnight on Tuesday.
