It’s part of a continuing crackdown by the courts on fine dodgers.

In Warwickshire alone last year, over 3,000 people had their wages or benefits plundered as the government tried to get back over £3 million they owed.

Mark Swales, Her Majesty’s Court Serve Regional Director for the Midlands, said: “Our message to fine dodgers is clear: pay up now or face the consequences.

“The courts will do everything within their powers to trace those who do not pay. Money can be taken from an offender’s earnings or from benefits if they are unemployed.”

“Warrants can be issued instructing court employed agents to seize and sell goods belonging to the offender. Ultimately an offender can be imprisoned for non-payment of their fine.”

Just a day before the crackdown began in Coventry, police arrested 15 people in the north-east of the city and hauled them up in front of the courts or the council.

I had an enforcement notice shoved through my door which was addressed to someone I've never heard of living in the next street! A quick search on Google revealed that particular company ("Equita") has a notorious record for the way it recovers debts :fuming:
