A £180,210 grant will be handed to the Warwickshire Association of Youth Clubs, which runs 130 schemes across our area.

As well as giving 11 to 25-year olds someone to go, it organises courses and training to help young people plan for the future and get into work and has a network of 800 youth workers.

The Cabinet Office have announced the funding as part of the government’s Big Society plan, which aims to get more people volunteering and taking part in their local communities.

The news comes just weeks after Warwickshire County Council confirmed it was transforming and scaling back its youth service to help make huge savings – with just £1 million being spent in the coming year on youth workers who will try to keep some of their services going.

Francis Maude, Minister for the Cabinet Office, said: “Big Society will open billions of pounds worth of new opportunities for charities but some need immediate support.”

“We’ve set up the Transition Fund quickly so that the charities most vulnerable to public spending cuts won’t be left to sink or swim.”
