There could be a shake-up in how primary school places are allocated in Rugby.Warwickshire County Council says at the moment the system’s unfair as too many parents are getting their children into the six most popular schools in Cawston and Bilton even though they live nowhere near them.
They want to consult on the creation of a zone covering all six schools, where families living nearby would be given priority.
The schools affected are:
* Bawnmore Infant
* Bilton Infant
* Bilton CE Junior
* Cawston Grange Primary
* Henry Hinde Infant
* Henry Hinde Junior
County Councillor Heather Timms, Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Families, said: “The consultation clearly lays out our thinking behind adjusting the priority admissions area for Rugby primary schools and provides an opportunity for local people to tell us what they think of these plans.”
“The new priority area would improve the likelihood of pupils living in the area securing a place at their local school.”
“It would also help secure the viability of all local schools, including those outside the six named schools, by making best use of existing capacity rather than creating new capacity.”
If approved, the changes would come in for children entering reception in September 2012.
A consultation on the plans runs until 3rd May and people can comment
