32-year old Ryad Chabane admitted stealing £800 worth of electricity by bypassing his own meter to gain as much as he wanted from the mains supply on Dillotford Avenue in Cheylesmore.

The offences range from August 2008 to January last year.

He caused £642 pounds worth of damage to electrical equipment.

Enforcement service manager at Whitefriars Housing, Tony Marsella, said: “This eviction sends out a clear message to residents that we will not tolerate people putting others’ lives at risk by interfering with electricity, gas, water or any other utility services. It is breach of their tenancy agreement and is taken very seriously.”

“An inspection of the electricity meter found burnt ends on the wiring which had been connected by the resident to bypass the meter. The connection was highly dangerous and illegal.”
