The city’s the first place in England to host an event as part the 2012 games when it stages a women’s match on July 25th, 2 days before the official opening ceremony.

In all, 12 matches will be held at the Ricoh – which will be renamed the City of Coventry Stadium for the duration of the games.

It will be preceded by a men’s qualifying match in April, which will act as a test event.

Daniel Gidney, chief executive of the Ricoh Arena, said: “Get your name down and take part in what will be the Coventry Olympic experience.”

“Realistically, this will probably be the only time in our lifetimes this happens.”

“There’s a big American market too, and with the US track and field team training over in Birmingham, and the possibility of having the American football squad here means we could see Barack Obama paying us a visit.”

Meanwhile, trading standards officers in Coventry are warning people to only buy tickets for the games from the official website (linked below) and not from rogue traders.

Councillor Phil Townshend, Cabinet Member for Corporate and Neighbourhood Services, said: “Whatever tickets you buy online, you should always check out new websites by entering their details into a search engine or social network site.”

“Also only use your debit or credit card on sites which have a padlock symbol or make sure the website address begins with an https prefix.”

“Research shows that one person in 12 is scammed when trying to buy tickets online so it’s vital to take precautions before using your debit or credit card on a website you haven’t used before.”

Fans have until April 26th to apply for their share of the 6.6 million tickets being made available to the public here.

Tickets for the Paralympic Games go on sale on September 9th.
