Residents living near a social club in Coventry say plans for it to serve alcohol all day will put school children in danger.
People living near The Green Social Club, in Church Lane, Eastern Green, have set up a petition against an application for it to open from 10am until midnight from Monday to Thursday, and Sundays, and until 1am on Friday and Saturday.
At the moment the club has to be closed between 2.30-6pm, which residents say protects children at St Andrews CE school and playgroups at the Village Hall next door.
A petition bearing 37 signatures has been submitted to the council’s licensing committee, which will consider the proposals next Thursday.
One neighbour said: “If the club was open all day, as they request, then daytime drinkers would be standing outside of the club when the children are about.
"The smokers stand by the front door, often with drinks in their hands.”
Another resident, who lives nearby, said: “It will mean the club will be open during school time which is not a good thing as it is very close to the school.
“This will also cause more anti-social behaviour because people retaliate when residents pull them up for swearing when they come out of the club.”
