A service supporting people acting as carers in Rugby is set to have its funding cut under new proposals.
As well as the Rugby Crossroads charity, the local Victim Support service will lose out, and all of the £11,799 given to the Warwickshire Race Equality Partnership will be withdrawn.
Councillors instead want to raise the amount of cash given to community projects that will regenerate areas including Brownsover, Overslade, Benn, Newbold and New Bilton.
They also want to given £15,000 to the Rugby Credit Union, which would then be able to help more people struggling to find loans and deal with debts.
They’ll be no change to the grants given to charities like Age Concern, Relate and the Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
Cllr Leigh Hunt, Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Inclusive Communities, said:
“The cross-party working group has put a considerable amount of thought into how the council can continue to support the voluntary sector while also making sure that we focus our resources on the communities identified in our regeneration strategy.”
“The organisations identified in these recommendations will help us to support our most vulnerable communities effectively in these times of economic uncertainty.”
The proposals will need to be approved at a Cabinet Meeeting on 14th March.
