Nuneaton MP Marcus Jones has called for a rethink of the borough council’s decision to cut funding to the Citizens Advice Bureau.
He says the 10 per cent reduction in support to the local office will lead to shorter opening hours and staff redundancies and the decision comes despite the government continuing to fund the CAB to help people with debt problems.
“We all know that it is a difficult time and difficult decisions over spending are having to be made,” said the Tory member.
“However, it is particularly disappointing that the Conservative councils in Rugby and North Warwickshire have been able to keep funding CAB, as has Labour-run Coventry City Council, when our council in Nuneaton, under the Labour administration, have sought to make cuts to this vital local service.
"I have written to the leader of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to urge him to reconsider.”
