The authority has set its budget at £97.1m, £3.5m less than last year.

Chief Constable Keith Bristowe has said another £13.4m will have to be removed from the budget over the next four years.

He said ways of doing that had been identified. The force has previously said officers with more than 30 years' service could be made to retire.

The force is also planning to sell its Leek Wootton headquarters and has previously said up to 450 jobs could go.

Chief Constable Bristowe said removing the further £13.4m has meant making tough decisions which has affected the workforce.

"There is a further £9.5m worth of reduction in budget to be achieved by 31 March 2015 and work is already well under way to identify how we can achieve this with the least possible increase in risk of harm to the public," he said.
