Warwickshire Police will today announce whether they will ask people to pay more council tax to help keep officers on the streets.
The force has been told it will have to save £22.9 million pounds over the next 4 years, significantly more than the £13.4 million gap it was expecting.
Last week Chief Constable Keith Bristow confirmed he would be forcing staff with more than 30 years experience to retire to help meet the target.
That’s on top of plans to sell off their headquarters at Leek Wootton and make around 450 people redundant.
Last month, the force sent out a survey asking the public whether they would like to contribute by paying extra for the police’s part of council tax.
The results will be announced later along with the budget for 2011/12.
Also today Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council will set out its stall for next year, with bosses deciding how to shave just over £1.5 million pounds next year.
It’s set to include two schemes already voted through – an increase in parking charges and a change to fortnightly instead of weekly bin collections.
