Micro pigs are big business, says Rugby breeder

You can find them hanging out with David Beckham, lurking in Paris Hilton’s handbag or even playing with Harry Potter’s best mate.

And now the micro pig has reared its tiny head on a Warwickshire farm.

Breeder Heidi Stobson has just welcomed a new brood of the cute creatures into the world, which are happily trotting and oinking their way around the family land near Rugby.

But she has warned anyone who thinks the micro pig would make the perfect household pet to think again.

Despite famous fans creating the impression the animals can be kept indoors Heidi says that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Since deciding to start breeding micro pigs, also known as pixie pigs, teacup pigs and mini pigs, Heidi and her family set out to be responsible breeders.

To test the water the Newcastle United fan invited her male micro pig – named Nobby Solano after the Peruvian player – into their home.

But the experiment soon turned sour after Nobby started munching on houseplants and breaking into kitchen cupboards.

“He was house trained in two days,” Heidi, who runs Heidi’s Happy Hens, said. “But it only took him a few more days to figure out where the food was kept in the kitchen cupboards.

“I had to put child locks everywhere. I’ve never had to do it before and we’ve got two children.
