A woman is due in court later after a puppy was found close to death tied to a tree in Nuneaton. The 3-month old was only saved when a walker spotted him on a park opposite the Cherry Tree pub back in November.
He was then taken to the RSPCA and found to be malnourished.
19-year old Amie Smith from The Circle in Stockingford’s accused of abandonment, an offence under the Animal Welfare Act.
Speaking at the time, Inspector Helen Smith from the town’s RSPCA said: “It is indefensible for anyone to discard any pet by tying them up to a tree, or a fence or by a road and leaving them to it. What sort of person considers this to be acceptable behaviour?
“Anyone who abandons a pet by dumping it on the streets is leaving that animal in huge danger. In this case the puppy is lucky to be alive as he would not have survived the night in the cold. The dog is young, underweight and has such a thin coat so he was particularly vulnerable.”
She’s due before magistrates at the Warwickshire Justice Centre in Nuneaton.
