People power won when Coventry residents persuaded architects to change their plans for a new multi-million development.

At a ward forum in St Thomas Church Hall, Hurst Road, on Wednesday, Longford residents gave their opinions on plans for the redevelopment of the former Courtaulds factory, in Little Heath.

The plans for the 40-acre site include 370 houses and 80 apartments as well as a cricket pitch, sports pavilion, and 11 acres of green open space.

The site could also see office buildings, industrial units, and a hotel or care home. It is expected to create about 150 new jobs.

But the original proposals suggested Dovedale Avenue, which is a cul-de-sac, should open up a pedestrian access at the end of the street so people can walk onto the site.

People living in the road attended the meeting to voice their concerns, arguing too many people would park their cars on the narrow road, causing traffic chaos.

A revised outline planning application will be submitted to Coventry City Council within weeks.
