Family and friends have been shocked by the sudden death of Nuneaton journalist Steve Read, who had spent the last five years sailing the world as a cruise ship correspondent.
Steve was found collapsed in his chalet home in the New Forest after suffering a massive heart attack.
He was 54 and had only recently returned from a trip to Florida.
“We just cannot believe what has happened,” said his younger brother Phil.
“Steve had been back with the family in Nuneaton at Christmas and was looking fit and well.
“Apparently, a neighbour raised the alarm after noticing Steve’s windows had been open for two days.
"When the police went in, they found him dead on the floor with a book in his hand.
"A post mortem examination revealed he had suffered one fatal heart attack.
“He was a very popular, likeable person and the news has stunned everyone who knew him.”
Steve was born in Nuneaton and went to King Edward VI Grammar Schoool before becoming a cub reporter on the old Evening Tribune.
When he was in his 20s he joined The Sun as a sub-editor and went on to launch a cruise column.
