A teacher who spent a decade as head of geography at a Coventry school was caught accessing pornography on his work computer.
Paul Hayes resigned from Woodlands School and Sports College after another teacher found a list of the smutty sites he had visited and alerted the head teacher.
The matter was deemed so serious that West Midlands Police was called in to investigate.
Mr Hayes, who has not taught since he was caught, admitted surfing school computers for porn during a six month period between 2007 and 2008.
He resigned in February 2008. Now a hearing of the General Teaching Council’s professional conduct committee has officially reprimanded him for his behaviour.
Committee chairman Mick Lyons said: “Mr Hayes accessed pornographic websites during the school day using school equipment.
“Such behaviour was unacceptable. Such actions fall below the standards of behaviour expected of a registered teacher and represent a breach of the standards of propriety expected of the profession.
“Not only did his actions fail to uphold school ICT policy regarding the use of school equipment, but also had the potential to undermine the reputation of the profession. Such conduct is incompatible with the behaviour which is expected of registered teachers.”
Mr Hayes was caught out by colleagues when they conducted a routine check of websites accessed on schools computers in 2008.
