A young mum and her baby were rescued by neighbours yesterday after arsonists tried to burn down their house in Wood End.
Passers-by smashed a rear window to get them out after burning paper was shoved through the letterbox of the house in Lapworth Road, Wood End, at 5.25pm.
Firefighters said the woman and her two-year-old daughter could not get out of the front door because the fire had spread to a pushchair, and could not find their back door key.
Watch commander Tim Parsons, of Radford Road fire station, said: "It’s a clear case of arson.
"It had the potential to be a lot worse than it was."
