Car parking charges at Coventry’s War Memorial Park could be considered by the cash-strapped council.
Car parks at the city’s flagship park are currently free but it’s thought new charges could be mooted next month in the city council’s budget report.
The council has rejected the idea of introducing charges at Coventry’s largest public green space in the past.
But next month councillors must find both savings and new revenue streams to plug a funding gap of £140 million over the next four years.
Ces Edwards, Coventry’s head of parks and open spaces, would not confirm whether or not next month’s budget report will include new charges but says it is “an obvious thing to consider”.
He said: “Coming up to the budget setting process right across the council a range of things have been looked at and discussed.
“We are not party to divulge what those things are at the moment.”
The park is currently undergoing a £1.8 million regeneration, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
