Radio One breakfast DJ Chris Moyles drew hundreds of fans to a Leamington pub just minutes after announcing the event live on air.

Moyles, 36, rounded off a week of surprise visits by mingling with punters at the White Horse, in Clarendon Avenue, before hosting a pub quiz.

His show’s crew joined him for the bash – which was only announced on Radio 1’s Scott Mills show just before 4pm yesterday.

By 4.30pm about 200 people had packed into the pub – delighting the long-serving host.

“Literally as soon as we opened the door people were coming in,” he said. “And we’ve already got a good-sized queue.

“We’ve done this once before but at a much smaller pub.

“So it’s going to take a little while to get round and see everyone, then I’ve got to get home and have my tea.

“Saying that, Leamington seems really nice. It’s the first time I’ve been here and it seems rather coastal.”

Within seconds of the impromptu drinking session being announced on air, Nikki Smith, of Stratford, and sister Jo, of Daimler Green, Coventry, were the first people through the door.

Nikki, 32, said: “We’re massive fans of the show. But we knew it was happening before it went on air.

“We saw Dominic Byrne (news reader) outside the pub. He’s quite distinctive – it must be the bald head.
