Notorious Coventry junction being revamped as part of £700,000 project
A notorious Coventry gyratory is being revamped in a bid to help shake its ‘Malfunction Junction’ moniker.
The busy Tile Hill gyratory is undergoing traffic signal improvements as part of a £700,000 road improvement programme in the city.
Work has already started on the A45 junction which links the Highway with Tile Hill Lane, Vanguard Avenue and Herald Avenue.
Officials expect improvements on the gyratory - which surrounds fast food outlets including McDonalds, KFC and Subway - to be completed by the end of September.
The roadworks are to be funded using a grant from the Department for Transport.
A spokesperson for the council said: “The signals at a number of junctions on the A45 are being upgraded to improve traffic flow and keep traffic moving efficiently, reducing any delays to motorists.
“The work has been funded through a £700,000 grant from the Department of Transport and covers work at nine junctions, which will be linked to respond to traffic volume and conditions and so improve traffic flow around the city.”
Five junctions at the Tile Hill Gyratory will be covered by the funding including: A45/Matrix Churchill; A45/Tile Hill; A45/Herald Avenue; Tile Hill Lane/Vanguard Avenue; and Vanguard Avenue/Herald Avenue.
Four other junctions in the city are also covered for improvements by the funding including the A45/Wainbody Avenue; A45/Kenilworth Road; The Butts/Albany Road; and The Butts/Windsor Street.
