Nuneaton FC: Reformed club to move in with Bedworth on artificial pitch

Image

Reformed Nuneaton FC are planning to get going again next season in a two-season pitch deal with neighbours Bedworth United, starting in 2024-25.

Bedworth currently play in tier four of the non-league pyramid, in the Northern Premier League West, two levels below where the former Nuneaton Borough sat.

Financially-challenged Boro withdrew from the Southern League Premier Division Central on 18 January.

The old club is expected to be wound up by His Majesty's Revenue & Customs.

Hopes of a takeover quickly faded - and there are now no listed directors to start insolvency proceedings.

That came three months after being evicted from their previous home in the town at Liberty Way, just under five miles away from their proposed new home.

Fan-owned Nuneaton face a deadline of 1 March if they are to be allowed to enter the non-league pyramid system for the 2024-25 season - and do not know yet whether they have been accepted or at which level they will play.

Bedworth announced the plan for a 'stadium hire' agreement on their artificial pitch, which has the option for a third season in 2026-27, in a statement released on Monday morning.

"The intention is that both first teams will play alternate Saturday afternoons," said the statement. "In the event of any fixture conflict, Bedworth United AFC, as the host club, will take priority.

"The financial benefits of the hire agreement, along with the club house revenue, including the snack bar, will be solely for Bedworth United. All other matchday revenue, gate takings etc, will be solely for Nuneaton FC.

"Bedworth United recognises that this has been a challenging time for Nuneaton Supporters. Hopefully this agreement will be the start of some positivity for their future.

"While we are rivals on the pitch, none of us would wish to see a proud club and its supporters go out of existence."

Reformed club must play as Nuneaton Town again

Image

Reformed non-league club Nuneaton FC - who ended life as Nuneaton Borough in January - have been told that they cannot play under their chosen name.

The name Nuneaton FC has now been rejected by the Birmingham County Football Association, to whom the club are affiliated.

They will again play as Nuneaton Town for the third time in their history.

Financially-challenged Boro withdrew from the Southern League Premier Division Central on 18 January.

Assuming they are accepted back into the non-league system, they have agreed a deal to use the home of non-league neighbours Bedworth next season.

But the club are now being told that it will be mid-May before a decision is made.

And the Football Association also still need to approve the name Nuneaton Town FC.

Bedworth are currently in tier four of the non-league pyramid, in the Northern Premier League West, two levels below that in which the former Nuneaton Borough played.

The decision to move there came three months after Nuneaton were evicted from their previous home at Liberty Way, just under five miles away from their proposed new home.

The old club is expected to be wound up by His Majesty's Revenue & Customs.

The club were known as Nuneaton Town from 1889 to 1937, when they disbanded.

They were then reformed as Nuneaton Borough, the name they had when they became founder members of the first national non-league top flight, the Alliance Premier League in 1979.

The club went from 1937 to 1991 before being liquidated for the first time and reforming as Nuneaton Borough 1991 FC.

They then went under again in 2008, this time starting life once more as Nuneaton Town.

The name was changed back to Nuneaton Borough, though, following a vote by fans.

In the latest vote, held in January, Nuneaton FC was preferred to Nuneaton Town by 55% to 45%.

Nuneaton Town crowdfund to cover costs

A crowdfunding appeal has been started by newly formed Nuneaton Town FC to raise £6,000 to help cover off-the-pitch start-up costs.

The club ended life as Nuneaton Borough in January after "insurmountable challenges in maintaining operations" saw the club unable to continue trading.

But they reformed in April and are now part-owned by fans as they prepare to compete in the Midland Football League Division One by using Bedworth United's pitch.

Money raised will go towards upfront costs including kit, physio equipment, training venue hire, legal fees, insurance, FA and League affiliation, the club said.

The club’s business partners have already pledged £6,000 to help with the costs of setting up the football club and a spokesperson said they want to match that figure with donations from fans and the community.

Any surplus will go towards financial reserves needed to protect against income fluctuations during the first season and efforts to find a venue for home games in Nuneaton, the club added.

Under the new ownership set up, the club has become a Community Interest Company which means sharing the responsibilities of running it, with profit and surplus reinvested.

On its fundraising page, external, the club said it needed to raise money as "without our own ground, we lose out on revenue streams usually generated by home games".

"As a community-focused club, we want supporters and the wider community to be at the heart of everything we do and play a meaningful role in the club’s development."

It is the third time in the club's history that they will again play as Nuneaton Town.

Huge memorial garden announcement at locked-up old Nuneaton Boro ground

Image

Access is being granted to a memorial garden within the now closed former home of Nuneaton Boro football club. CoventryLive has previously reported that families were left distraught as they were unable to get into the special memorial garden within the Liberty Way ground.

It has been closed for almost two years after the now collapsed football club was denied any access to the ground. A new team was formed, Nuneaton Town FC, but they do not play at Liberty Way.

However, the Nuneaton Town Supporters' Co-operative has said that it has been in touch with the ground owners and that families will be able to go to the memorial garden, where many have scattered loves ones' ashes, this weekend.

It also said that it is trying to work to find a longer term solution in regards to the memorial garden. On its page on Facebook, the supporters group said: " Nuneaton Town Supporters' Co-Operative have been in contact with the ground owner of Liberty Way and have been granted access on Saturday 19th October at 11.30am via the Rugby Club.

"Families of those interred in the Memorial Garden are welcome and invited to attend.

"The Supporters' Co-operative are working towards resolving access to the memorial garden along with investigating other options regarding the garden, the post adds.

Anyone who needs further information about access to the garden is being urged to contact the club's secretary Martin Ball on martin@nbfccoop.co.uk
