Well-known fast food restaurant to open Nuneaton branch

A well-known fast food restaurant is to open a new branch in Nuneaton town centre. Pepe's Piri Piri Chicken, which has an eatery in neighbouring Coventry, is set to come to the town.

A planning application submitted to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council showed it would be based in a unit well-known for playing home to Wales Fish and Chip shop, which was famed locally for its crinkle cut chips.

The application asks for permission for the installation of proposed new signage and extract of canopy at 42 Bond Street. Also for the erection of advertisements including two internally illuminated fascia signs and one hanging sign at ground floor level.

Contained with the application are designs of the new signs, which are for 'Pepe's Piri Piri'. This is the national chain known for its flame-grilled chicken.

The eatery would breathe life into what has been a building that has stood empty for more than a year. A Chinese noodle bar was due to open last year but did not materialise.

Wales chippy served generations of townsfolk. The new applications can be found on the council's website, searching under the planning application section for reference number 040463.

The target decision date for the application is October 1.
