Detectives say there is no terrorism link in relation to an investigation that saw the bomb squad arrive in Nuneaton.

A 'proactive' warrant was carried out at an address in Conwy Close yesterday morning (Wednesday, March 27).

It led to several 'suspicious items' being found inside.

In a statement the force said: “There is nothing to indicate a terrorism link at this time and there is not believed to be a wider risk to the local community.

"Enquiries are ongoing today.”

It has also emergeed that investigating officers have been given extra time to quiz a man who was arrested.

The man, who has not been identified but is aged in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of an offence under the Explosives Act.

He was taken into custody and detectives have been given until later this evening to continue to question him.

A police guard has been in place around the property for more than 24 hours now.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service sent two vehicles to the scene and the army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) van was also sent to the property.

It has not been revealed if the EOD team was called into action.
