Tackling drug dealing and drug use, purse thieves and car crime are the issues that people have told police in Nuneaton to prioritise.

Residents have responded to a police poll and told officers the crimes that are affecting their communities most.

As a result, a new list of priorities have been drawn-up by local Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs) across the town and dedicated operations put in place.

The new priority for Nuneaton Central areas is to focus on drug use and drug dealing in the Abbey Green area.

As a result, the SNT has pledged to carry out more patrols in a bid to find the 'hotspot' areas.

"The team will continue to work with the local community to gather intelligence to execute warrants," said a spokesperson.

"The team will also be continuing to work with intel (intelligence unit) and the Offender Management Unit along with partner agencies such as Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to combat the problem."

Vehicle crime is the biggest concern in the Nuneaton north area and SNT officers said they will launch a new operation to try and put the brakes on the problem.

"Alongside the operation, targeted patrols will be carried out in hot-spot areas and the ream will be liaising with the local community to raise awareness of vehicle crime prevention," a spokesperson for Nuneaton north SNT explained.

The new priority set for the Nuneaton town centre team is to focus on the recent increase in purse thefts.

As previously reported, there is an ongoing sting, code-named Operation Albus, to try and catch those responsible.

"The team have been and will continue to carry out Operation Albus, which is a plain clothed operation within the town centre to tackle purse thefts," the team spokesperson said.

"Alongside this we have been giving out prevention advice to members of the public."

There are local SNTs in communities across Nuneaton and Bedworth.

Anyone who wants to speak to their local SNT or pass on any information should call police on 101.
