Death on train line near Coventry

The incident is causing major travel disruption

A person has died after being struck by a train between Coventry and Rugby.

Emergency services were called to the incident happened near to Brandon at around 10.40am and a number of paramedics and police officers are still at the scene.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said they sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer and the HART team to the scene, as well as the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

Sadly nothing could be done to save the patient who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near to Brandon at 10.38am today after reports that a person had been struck by a train.

"Officers are currently on scene dealing with the incident."

The incident has blocked all lines - in both directions - between Coventry and Rugby with National Rail now estimating delays until 3pm.

Services ran by Virgin Trains and London Northwestern Railway between Birmingham and London Euston are affected.

Tickets are being accepted on train ran by Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry and West Midlands Trains.
