It caused some disruption to traffic

Motorists in Coventry city centre were left stranded in traffic as a result of roadworks outside Coventry Central Police Station.

A one way road closure has been put in place along Little Park Street , which caused traffic to back up during rush hour.

And unfortunately for motorists, the works are expected to continue until later this month, with signs indicating that work is set to run until October 24.

According to Coventry City Council 's online roadworks map, the work in question is to install a heating pipe along Little Park Street to the junction of New Union Street.

A number of workers are on the site, while large sections of the road have been dug up for the installation.

Temporary traffic lights have been installed at the works, which are being carried out by the council.

But queuing traffic along New Union Street brought part of the city centre to a standstill at the busiest time of day.

Currently, vehicles travelling down Little Park Street towards the New Union Street roundabout can still do so, but the road is closed to vehicles travelling in the opposite direction.

Instead, motorists are being diverted down the slip road for the Ring Road, before turning down St John Street and rejoining Little Park Street at the opposite end.

The traffic congestion is compounded by the fact that there are a number of construction projects in that part of town.

Coventry's new water park is taking shape on Greyfriars Lane, while further work on the Friargate project is being put together on Friars Road.
