Police made a grim discovery when they attended the house fire



Around £150,000 worth of cannabis was found after a house fire in Coventry.

Emergency services were called to a house in Foleshill where a three storey house was in fact being used as a cannabis farm.

Around 150 plants were found, each with the potential to yield around £1,000-worth of drugs.

Fire crews were first called at 9.02am on Monday, September 24, when a 999 call came in reporting a fire in a house on King George's Avenue.

Nearly 10 firefighters tackled the blaze before police arrived on scene at 9.40am.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We had a 999 call to reports of a house fire.

"We sent two crews to the scene, one fire engine and brigade vehicle - which is around eight firefighters in total.

"We left the scene shortly before midday, but were joined by the police around 9.40am.

"The fire started in the back lounge of a ground floor terraced property.

"Five of the firefighters had to wear breathing apparatus."

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called to a fire at a property in King George’s Avenue, Foleshill, Coventry.

"A small fire in the bathroom caused smoke damage, however four rooms were found to be used for cannabis cultivation with approximately 150 plants inside.

"The property has been made safe and the plants removed, enquiries are now on-going to trace the occupant."
