Police are searching for the driver of a car which was left upside down after a crash on a busy Coventry road this morning.

The driver, believed to be a man, fled the scene on Walsgrave Road, after the car collided with a lorry.

Despite the car ending up in a sorry state, there were no reported injuries after the crash, which took place at 6.29am.

One ambulance was called to the scene, but with the absence of the driver, there were no patients for paramedics to assess.

A number of CoventryLive readers were in the area at the time, and spotted the car on its roof.

Rebecca Stapleton said: “Car on its roof opposite the shops.”

Samantha Gager said: “A car has overturned on ball hill no buses are serving this road.”

After the collision, a large quantity of oil leaked onto the road, which led to its closure for quite some time this morning.

This caused a number of diversions, particularly for National Express Coventry buses which operate along Walsgrave Road.

With the road closed near to Briton Street, Services 4, 8, 8A, 9, 9A were all diverted via Binley Road and Church Lane, and were unable to serve Ball Hill.

A number of Diamond Buses were also disrupted.

Fire crews from Binley Fire Station were called to the scene, and sand was spread along the road to assist in cleaning up the oil spill.

All roads have now reopened.
