Action had to be taken to stop disrespectful drivers using Bedworth cemetery as a car park.

Selfish motorists have been driving from Coventry Road, through the cemetery and towards the church and then simply leaving their vehicles there.

Ground close to headstones was churned up by the motors causing further heartache for grieving families.

The situation was raised with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough councillor Bill Hancox who saw the damage for himself.

“I went there with an elderly lady, she showed me where the grass had been damaged and churned up close to her husband’s grave, she was so upset,” he said.

“It is so disrespectful. People were just driving through the cemetery and then leaving their cars either to go to work, pop into town for shopping or getting a prescription from the health centre.

"This shows a total lack of respect.”

He raised the issue at the Town Hall and now measures have been put into place to stop motorists getting into the cemetery.

Rails and bollards were installed and they have had a huge impact.

“The newly installed bollards and rails complement the cemetery and I have received many thank-yous for the improvements,” Cllr Hancox said.

“The council has done a great job in getting these in and I am so pleased that they are working."
