A Coventry cat charity had one of its "hardest and hottest" rescues after saving a cat stuck in a garage roof for THREE days.

Poor little Benji - a semi feral stray - got himself stuck in a very tight spot during the sweltering heatwave the city has been enjoying.

He shot into the small roof space when something spooked him and couldn't get back out.

Last night (June 27), members of Coventry Cat Group charity and rescue went out to try and free him - and almost ended up dismantling the roof.

A spokesman for the group, based in Allesley, said: "He was well and truly wedged, it was extremely hot and we thought we were going to have to take the roof apart to get him out.

"After a lot of attempts and a final burst of adrenaline we managed to free him.

"He seems to be fine after his ordeal, although extremely dirty.

"He was vet checked last night and was given the okay to recover in a pen before neutering."

The spokesman for Coventry Cat Group added: "Benji is now recovering in our isolation unit until he can go back to the lady who has been feeding this gorgeous semi feral boy since Christmas.

"Once he has been returned, Caroline who has been feeding him, is going to socialise him and integrate him in to her furry gang.

"Thank you to Caroline and Julie for looking out for this boy and keeping him safe for so many months.

"It's the first day of your new life Benji, we hope you enjoy learning to love and trust, you have a wonderful forever home waiting for you."
