Yob threw brick at mum as she fed ducks with her little boy

The victim's dad has hit out at the police's response to Monday's attack



A mum had a brick thrown at her in a random attack as she was feeding ducks with her little boy.

The victim managed to stop the brick from hitting her head but suffered a serious hand injury in doing so.

The attack happened as the mother was walking with her son on the canal path near to the Royal Hotel in Old Church Road, Bell Green, on Monday evening.

The offender ran off after throwing the brick and police are now investigating the incident.

The victim's father, who did not wish to be named, said: "It was just a random attack, but why would someone do that?

"The police were phoned and said they would come to see her on Thursday. I rang them and the reply I got was that it's not a major incident.

"I said it was as what would have happened if the brick had hit her on the head?

"There would have been a 10-year-old child there and they could have been looking at a murder.

"I asked 'what do I pay my council tax then? I call you and you don't want to turn up'. They basically just fobbed me off."

The father said he's also been told that this wasn't the first incident like this in the area.

The police situation is rather worrying. I see this leading to vigilante groups forming, something I personally don't want to see on our streets.
