Time is being called for good on a Foleshill social club which is hugely popular with both Sky Blues and Wasps fans on matchdays.

The RAOB Club on Foleshill Road has been serving-up matchday hospitality for many years but it is set to close its doors on Sunday June 10.

A number of sports fans and people who use the club regularly contacted the Telegraph to say it was closing suddenly and that it would be missed.

The venue was an attractive one for many football and rugby fans who availed of its matchday parking facilities as it has a large car park to the rear.

However it was also a busy social club in its own right, with events ranging from bingo to discos and private functions.

Head steward Haj Dogra said he knew the club would be closing at some point but said he had expected it to remain open a little longer.

Mr Dogra, who has been running the club for the past year, said he was only told recently that it was to close.

He said: “We were only told last Sunday, which only gave me a week to find a new job.

“I knew it was coming but not that suddenly.”

Mr Dogra said he had grown-up just opposite the club and that it had always been popular with football and rugby fans travelling both to and from the Ricoh Arena.

He added that he thought the club’s closure might have been timed to coincide with the end of both the football and rugby seasons, as business would have been quieter over the summer months.

“There’s no football or rugby for the next few months, so it would have been a struggle,” he said.

“I will particularly remember the rugby days.

“It used to be really good. We had both home and away fans and the atmosphere was wicked.

“There was always an awesome atmosphere on matchdays - it is such a shame.

“I will definitely miss that.

“A lot of people are saying they are going to miss it.”

How the hell could he "particularly remember the rugby days" when they only started playing there quite recently? :clown:

Nice plot of land there for houses!
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
