An investigation has been launched after a man was shot in broad daylight.

Police were called to Victoria Street in Hillfields just after 5pm this afternoon.

They were responding to reports of shots being fired.

A 24-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to his neck and has been taken to hospital.

His condition is not thought to be life threatening.

While investigations are ongoing, the area has been cordoned off.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "An investigation is underway after police were called to Victoria Street in Hillfields, Coventry just after 5pm this afternoon (1 June) following reports of shots fired.

"A 24-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to his neck and has been taken to hospital where his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

"Meanwhile the area has been cordoned off and police are speaking to witnesses at the scene."
