An eyewitness was woken by the commotion in the early hours

Armed police swooped on a Coventry home in an early morning raid and made an arrest.

A firearms warrant was executed in Roland Avenue, Holbrooks, at around 2.15am on Tuesday with an eyewitness reporting up to 25 officers with guns in the street.

They said a man was seen being led away in handcuffs and West Midlands Police confirmed a man was arrested during the incident.

A resident, who did not wish to be named, told CoventryLive: "At about 2.15am I was woken by a really loud dog barking. It turned out to be a police dog.

"I looked out my window and saw about 20 to 25 armed police in total.

"They had blocked off Roland Avenue from the end by the shops and Parkville Highway as well. There were police on Parkville Highway as well.

"They eventually went into a ground floor flat and brought out a guy handcuffed. They took him down to the end of the road and eventually put him in a car and drove him away.

"You could tell from the lights in the window they were searching the flat.

"All in all it took about 20 minutes from when I was woke to when the police left."

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with a firearms offence and released on bail."

A 27-year-old man was arrested ... and released on bail."

Which (at least to my mind) makes the timing and cost of this operation rather questionable. Maybe Mr Jamieson might like to give us a few words?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
