Police have revealed today’s stand-off in Tile Hill was a pre-planned raid in a bid to arrest a man wanted on suspicion of committing several offences, including possession of a firearm.

The police operation, which took place from around 2.30pm , saw firearms, plain-clothed and uniformed officers on Bohun Street and James Green Road.

The stand-off continued for some time, with at least five armed police officers taking up positions on Bohun Street outside a house.

After a time the firearms officers moved position, with four of them lining-up outside the door of the property.

One officer then banged on the door and shouted: “Armed police - come to the front door.

“Show yourself right now.”

The officers opened the door and two of them went in, before others followed.

A police dog was subsequently sent in and the door to the property was closed.

While the stand-off took place an unmarked police car cordoned off a section of Bohun Street and the police helicopter was hovering over the area for lengthy periods .

West Midlands Police said the incident related to a pre-planned raid at a property on James Green Road, just off Bohun Street.

A police spokesman said they received intelligence that a man, wanted on suspicion of several offences including possession of a firearm, was present at an address on James Green Road.

A team of local and specialist firearms officers supported by the police helicopter were deployed to the address.

The force spokesman said a search of the property was conducted but the man police were looking for, who has not been named, was not found and no arrests were made.
