A Coventry woman abused other passengers and was aggressive towards cabin crew on a Birmingham bound plane after downing a quarter of a bottle of rum.

Her “appalling” behaviour reduced one elderly woman to tears.

Sharon O’Donoghue, 45, of Grayswood Avenue, had been on board a flight from Hurghada in Egypt on March 12 which had 218 passengers and two infants.

Following complaints O’Donoghue was moved to another seat and was arrested when the plane landed.

When interviewed she accepted that she had drunk some of the alcohol and that it had “affected her more than it normally would”.

O’Donoghue, who had previously admitted being drunk while entering an aircraft, was sentenced to a 12 month community order and ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work.

She was told by Recorder Patrick Upward QC: “You have upset a lot of people, people who are frightened enough getting on an aeroplane without idiots like you.”

Perhaps they should start a point system or ban these kind of people from being able to fly like they do with drinking and driving.
