The man suffered “multiple skull fractures” and his attackers fled the scene
A 21-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked by a group of men in Coventry last night.
West Midlands Police said the man suffered “multiple skull fractures” in the Keresley Road incident and that his attackers fled the scene in a vehicle.
The police have now launched a witness appeal to the incident and in particular urged any motorists who might have dash-cam footage of what happened to come forward.
The attack took place shortly before 11pm on Thursday near to the Old Shepherd pub on Keresley Road.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “Police were alerted by ambulance colleagues just before 11pm last night to a man who’d suffered serious head injuries in Keresley Road, Coventry, near the Old Shepherd pub.
“It’s understood the 21-year-old was assaulted by a group of men before they made off in a vehicle - the victim suffered multiple skull fractures and is in a critical condition in hospital.
“Enquiries are underway and police are appealing for witnesses - or anyone who was passing the scene in a vehicle and may have camera footage of the incident - to call West Midlands Police on the 101 number quoting crime reference 20CV/87233B/18.”
Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Critical Care Car were all sent to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews discovered a man who had been seriously injured.
“He received specialist trauma care at the scene before being transported to hospital for further assessment.”
