Around 30 firefighters were sent to tackle a blaze at an electrical substation at a recycling plant in Coventry.

The EMR Recycling site on Stoney Stanton Road, Foleshill, was closed off shortly after 9am and the fire service was called.

But fire crews were unable to put the blaze out until around four hours later when they received the all clear to say that the fire had been isolated and the electricity has been turned off.

They were unable to get close to the scene until it was safe to do so and were tasked with keeping potentially dangerous tanks of hydraulic oil cool in the meantime.

The site remained closed to the public all day with many people turning up to use the scrap yard being turned away and told to come back the next day.

Five fire engines and a brigade response vehicle were at the scene, which equates to around 27 firefighters in total.

Western Power Distribution (WPD) was also at the scene.

It is believed the fire started due to an electrical fault.
