Paul McCartney's solution to climate change is to eat less meat.

Ahead of world climate change talks in Copenhagen on Monday, the ex-Beatles guitarist took his campaign for 'Meatless Mondays' to the European Parliament with Rajendra K. Pachauri, chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The pair called for political action on reducing beef production, citing a 2006 UN study that said livestock rearing is responsible for more harmful emissions than the transport industry, The AP reports.

"I would be glad if this weren't true, and we could just carry on as we are forever quite happily and not bother with this whole subject, but I've got a nasty feeling that this is true," stated McCartney.

However, critics claimed that his statistics were "muddled, misleading and wrong". One detractor suggested: "He won't be seeing his vision of Strawberry Fields forever."

MEP and former dairy farmer Richard Ashworth added that McCartney is "selling vegetarianism on the basis it can save the world".

Macca probably believes that ordinary people in this country have so much money they can choose whether to eat less beef or not?
