Coventry left gridlocked in morning rush hour traffic - because of one accident

The city centre ground to a halt due to a collision



Motorists in Coventry were this morning hit with travel chaos after an accident on a major road out of the city.

One lane was blocked on the London Road between the ring road and A46 shortly before 8am.

A people carrier and Ford Focus had collided just near to the Allen Ford garage.

One motorist said they saw the people carrier had gone into the back of the focus but embedded into the back of it.

Police were on scene blocking one lane, however the lane closure caused chaos for the rest of Coventry.

Traffic backed up around the ring road, with traffic blocking off junctions.

There was also a lot of congestion around the lights at the junction with Foleshill Road, with more traffic problems due to people just blocking junctions.

Fortunately, West Midlands Ambulance Service were not called to the collision this morning.

But the traffic issues didn’t end there.

Motorists on Walsgrave Road trying to get into town were stuck in more than a mile and a half of traffic.

Traffic was building up from Longfellow Road all the way into town - around 1.7 miles.
