Coventry City Council won't reveal who is leaving or how much public cash they will be paid
Three senior council employees are in line for six-figure golden goodbyes as they leave the local authority under the latest re-shuffle.
Coventry City Council has so far refused to reveal who is in line to receive the publicly-funded pay-offs, or the exact amounts they are in line to receive, citing data protection rules.
The payments are due to be signed off during a finance meeting on Monday.
A report produced ahead of that meeting reveals only that the three employees are in line to receive “in excess of £100,000” each, while council officials would only confirm that the employees concerned were “managers” within the Children’s Services department.
The redundancy / early retirement payments will form part of a move to axe 26 staff in total, with those pay-offs set to total £604,000.
Council bosses say the restructure will produce annual savings of £1.1million in the long run.
It is the latest cost-cutting measure from the local authority which has drastically scaled back services since 2010 as it aims to shave £119m a year from its budget by 2020.
The payments for employees leaving under the restructure are linked to salary, pension contributions and service length.
Asked about the level of salary received by the senior employees in line for the higher pay-offs, a council spokesman said: “The posts fall within an annual salary range of £41,025 and £48,727, with an employer superannuation contribution of 16.8 per cent.”
He added: “We are required to meet the early retirement cost to the pension fund where an employee is over the age of 55-years-old.
“This increases the total level of exit payment incurred. We understand that national government are reviewing the public sector exit payments and we are waiting the outcome of this review.”
