A school bus ended up in a ditch after it swerved to try and avoid a collision with a lorry near Coventry Airport.

The incident involved a Johnson’s Excelbus 534 service and happened in Bubbenhall Road, Baginton, just after 8am.

Warwickshire Police said it was a crash between a lorry and a bus and that children were reported to be on board.

It is not thought anyone was injured.

All the windows along the side of the bus that are visible from the road are missing - they were smashed in order to free the passengers.

Simon Smith, from Johnson’s buses, has told the Telegraph that nobody was hurt in this morning’s crash.

He said: “There were no injuries involved and we are investigating to find out the full details of what happened.

“We don’t know the number of pupils who were on board."

He added that the bus driver took evasive action to avoid a collision with another vehicle - believed to be a lorry.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police told the Telegraph: “We were called to reports of a collision which happened at 8.15am involving a lorry and a coach in Bubbenhall Road, Baginton.

“The coach was carrying children and there were no injuries reported. The coach landed in the ditch.”

The mum of a 16-year-old who was on the bus said the girls on the bus were screaming.

She said: "My daughter phoned me just after it happened to say the bus had been in a bad crash.

"The driver did a great job though and although they all got out through the windows, they weren't injured."
