These pictures show the extent of the damage caused by a devastating fire which ripped through a popular fish and chip shop in Coventry.

Canley fire crews were called to St George’s Place in Charter Avenue in Canley at around 9pm last night to find the place ablaze.

The takeaway has been given a five star rating on Facebook, but last night fire crews were called to the fire which was alight for around two hours.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene where crews found the chip shop well alight. The fire looks to have started from the chip pan range , but spread to the extractor.

A spokesman at Canley fire station said: “We sent three crews to Charter Avenue around 9pm last night.

“It was a fire in the chip pan range that spread to the extractor unit.

“The crews for there for around an hour and a half, maybe a bit longer, but luckily nobody was injured as it was towards the end of the night.”
