Stoke Park School, in Dane Road, has outlawed caffeine fueled drinks such as Red Bull
A Coventry secondary school has banned pupils from consuming energy drinks.
Stoke Park School has outlawed fizzy sugary caffeine drinks such as Monster and Red Bull from this month and says anyone caught will have the can “confiscated”.
A single can of popular brands on the market can contain about 160mg of caffeine, but the European Food Safety Authority recommends an intake of no more than 105mg of caffeine per day for an average 11-year-old.
A message in the December issue of the Dane Road school’s newsletter says: “Health experts have warned of the dangers of excessive energy drink consumption and have outlined how they can effect consumers’ teeth, liver, kidneys, immune system, heart, and lead to weight gain and diabetes.
“As a result of the negative effects of these drinks they will be banned in school from January 2017 onwards.
“We would appreciate your support in this matter.
“If a student is seen with an energy drink it will be confiscated.”
Hogwash!
