Pool Meadow bus station was evacuated this morning after a unattended bag sparked a bomb scare.

The city centre bus station was shut down by police after the alarm was raised over the bag at around 11am.

The bus station was closed as precaution but reopened shortly afterwards when the owner of the bag came forward.

An evacuation had started but was abandoned.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “It was a bag that was left unattended, but it was all in order within minutes and the man returned to his bag.

“There was an evacuation ordered as a precaution but four minutes later, he returned to his bag.”

A spokesman for Diamond Buses said there was an “ongoing incident”.

A Facebook post read: “Coventry Pool Meadow is currently closed until further notice due to an ongoing incident.

“This will cause disruption to all our services in the area. Apologies to those affected.”
