A double booking saved six people from what could have been a wash-out New Year’s Eve party at a luxury Coventry hotel.

Just six people had booked tickets for the £27.50-a-head buffet and disco at the Macdonald Ansty Hall Hotel in Shilton.

But the event was cancelled after a wedding being held on the same day asked for exclusive use of the hotel’s function rooms.

The six guests who had bought tickets by the time the event was cancelled were given their money back and helped by staff to arrange something else.

A spokesman for Macdonald Hotels said the event - described as “a night to remember” - was pulled in October and that only six tickets had been sold.

An advert for the event read: “Dazzle on the dance floor to the family entertainment and disco until the big midnight countdown.

“For those allowed to stay up late it’s a night to remember!”

A spokesman for the venue said: “ A wedding was booked 18 months ago but they came back to us in September and asked for exclusive use of the hotel’s function rooms.

“Because there was only a group of six people booked, they decided to cancel the event at the time.

“There are still rooms available however for people to stay in if they wish to see in the New Year.

“The restaurant is also there for people to enjoy a meal in with their families.”

The four-star Macdonald Ansty Hall is a Grade II listed Georgian house dating back to 1678, set in eight acres of grounds.
